Prenatal Massage
Pregnancy is such a unique chapter in our lives. It is a time when the body you have always known suddenly shifts in ways that are unfathomable. That can be exciting for some, unsettling for others. Massage is a wonderful way to take time to be present in this new body. It allows you to slow down and receive care. It allows you to take time out of our busy lives to connect with what is happening with your baby. There are plenty of challenges in pregnancy that are significantly helped by what massage has to offer. Prenatally, we will use pillows to bolster you in a comfortable side lying position (many clients love to recreate this position for sleep later on.) You will switch sides (often using the bathroom) as I change the bolstering. Working on pregnant clients for over 12 years, I am very comfortable navigating the pressure you deserve. This is a time of strength, you deserve to be touched in a way that honors that. As your body shifts, we are able to address each concern as it comes up.
Postnatal Massage
You can receive a massage almost immediately once you get home. Whether you had a fast/furious birth, a long induction or even a planned c-section, massage can address many of the common discomforts of those first few days/weeks (edema, shoulder/neck issues related to breast/chestfeeding, achey muscles from your labor, carpel tunnel, etc.) We will use pillows to bolster, accommodating tender breasts, c-incisions, leg swelling. Postnatal massages can be paced a little differently; we often need to stop to address a newborns needs. I often will spend time helping a birthing person with a side lying position so that they can breast/chestfeed while I massage. I also often am able to give ideas to help with the healing process, allow for time to process client’s births, and provide some lactation support.
Sports massage
I have worked with all kinds of athletes - weekend warriors, dancers to dedicated marathoners. I comfortable tailoring your massage to address injuries, surgeries, training needs, flexibility and relaxation. I believe in deep work that doesn’t need to hurt. Using myofascial techniques, I warm up your fascia so that I can get deeply into the layers of muscle and connective tissue without triggering a tightening of the muscle fibers. Often people feel that there is no such thing as too much pressure, but that is actually not the case. Everyone is different, massage pressure tolerance is incredibly varied. Communication is key. I check in with my clients throughout our massages.
Birth/body worker Massage
Supporting others who do this work is important to me. The physical/emotional demands that this work puts on each individual can really add up. Let me help you take care of you so that you can continue to powerfully support your clients.
Bereavement massage
Doing massage for individuals and their supporting families, who are in hospice has been an important part of my journey as a massage therapist. Supporting transitions is a calling. I am humbled with the honor of helping those whose body is declining as well as the family that is there for them. Supporting those who have had a loss (chosen or unexpected), as they physically and emotionally heal is also incredibly important to me.
Young to the young at heart
I can work with new families who are interested in learning how to massage their infants as a way to bond and give their children comfort. My massage clientele has ranged from as young as 10 to 93 years old. I love to help people find ease in their physical/emotional body by breathing deeper, improving circulation/range of motion, getting in touch with their rest/digest nervous system, and working towards peace in their mind/body.
